So Now You Want To Improve Your Singing By Learning Vocals?

I often here people say, I can play but I cant sing, you can either sing or you cant right?. Wrong.

We can all sing, but like everything else in life some are better than others. If you watch the videos of on line guitar teachers like Mike Herberts featured here on Riffmagic you will agree that he isn’t the best vocalist in the world, but that hasn’t stopped him from having a very nice life style through music.

Your voice was the first musical instrument you owned; yet most of us don’t make the most of it.
So maybe you have your sights set on playing and singing in a band, or maybe you just want to be able to sing the words to the songs you strum in the bedroom, or maybe its just to sing along at the local pub, whatever the reason you can achieve your ambition with a little help.

There are a few singing courses around, some good, some to be honest not worth a penny, and as they are not  interactive like guitar lessons, it makes them harder to evaluate, which for us meant buying more courses than ever

We ended with a short list of 2 courses, one was singorama, from the Ben Edwards Jamorama stable, which covers the subject very well and has some goodies like an excellent metronome and mini recording studio. But the one we liked best is VOCAL RELEASE, by Eric Frey. Eric started singing in rock bands at the ripe old age of 15,22 years later he has what we consider to be the best all round vocals course, because of the way Eric handles the subject.  We are very impressed with the way he does away with a lot of the old-fashioned thoughts and really bringing learning to sing into the 21st century. Let’s face it, if you want to learn to play rock, blues, country guitar etc, you won’t want to learn from a classical guitarist will you? So why use the methods still taught by opera singers etc?

The course can be purchased on disc or digital download, we would always recommend download as its instant, you save on cost, then you save on postage and import taxes etc. Whichever method you choose the course is the same, we really liked the fact that it was broken into 8 weekly parts, obviously progression is at your pace but we felt that it was good to have a time frame to keep us on track, just like handing in an assignment on time.

As Eric says, The Vocal Release Technique is NOT style specific. It will produce in a singer whatever their vocal tone ideal is. So, if you are a country singer you will sound like a good country singer, if you are a R&B singer you will sound like a good R&B singer, if you are a classical singer you will sound like a good classical singer.

The vocal release website is a great site with stacks of information and tips; you can even have lessons over the phone with Eric Frey if that’s what you want.
